Level 3: Stroke Development

Ratio: 1 aide per 3 children plus a class instructor

Level 3 focuses on proper breathing techniques as well as introducing a greater sense of independence in the water.

Skills Taught/ Requirements for Passing Level

bulletHead first entry from the side in a sitting or kneeling position
bulletJumping into deep water from the side
bulletSubmerge and retrieve an object (3 seconds)
bulletPerform bobs with the head fully submerged (5 times)
bulletPerform rotary breathing with the body in a horizontal position (5 times)
bulletGlides
bulletFront glide - kick one, 2 body lengths
bulletFront glide - kick two, 2 body lengths
bulletBack glide - kick one, 2 body lengths
bulletFront glide - kick two, 2 body lengths
bulletFloats
bulletSurvival float (30 seconds)
